Hi, I’m Richard!

The Corporate Conscript is my way of sharing experiences and insights from the corporate world in the hopes others might have a smoother journey than I did. There will likely be a lot of blog posts concluding, “Don’t do this. I did and it didn’t end well.”

I’ve been working in the corporate world for 18+ years now and the one thing I’ve gained above all else is perspective. Being a Xennial, I grew up seeing my Dad go into the office as part of the ‘Old Guard’: wearing a suit and tie, no beards allowed, respect the hierarchy, and all that nonsense. I cut my own teeth in a business world whose traditions were being by challenged by Silicon Valley’s ping pong tables and free lunches. Now, as a seasoned employee in middle management, I often find myself explaining to newcomers how the corporate world works, how we got here, and how to deal with the soul-crushing futility of it all. I don’t presume to have all the answers, but I have a passion for developing leaders and I hope my views give you some food for thought.
